Will 301 redirecting an affiliate URL still give them credit for sale?

Will 301 redirecting an affiliate URL still give them credit for sale?

    Hi,

I was wondering how we would go about having affiliate codes in a URL while still getting credit for the URL without the code in Google? Basically the problem is that the affiliate URL's are getting indexed in Google and are getting better ranking than the true URL. This is a major problem because then we have the choice of either paying out every time somebody clicks on one of those affiliate URLs in Google, or telling Google to remove the link from indexing, thus loosing our ranking for that URL. Either way we loose in sales:(

I was thinking about issuing a 301 redirect on all incoming URL's with the affiliate code on them and redirecting them to the appropriate URL, but I didn't know if this would cause the affiliate to not receive credit for the order. Does the affiliate code get saved on the cookie placed on the users computer?

If this is possible, I also didn't know if there is a way to tell all incoming URL's ending with the affiliate code (i.e. ?af=suicidebots) to remove the affiliate code, instead of having to know the exact URL of every link the affiliate is using and having to manually issue redirects on each one.

I can help with testing this if you need me too:)

    Thanks,

    - Alex
