    Product detail tabs

Is there any way to set the order of the tabs? Mine defaults to related items then product detail. I'd prefer it the other way.

    thanks

    Re: Product detail tabs

What I did was put the related items as a snap-in below the detail tabs. Here is a link you can view:

    DHC Supplies NP1 Page

I agree with you that the you want to show the data first and then the related items.  I could never find a way to change it.

    Re: Product detail tabs

I compltely agree with you and have been speakign with AC about this. I consider this a 'defect' by making related items show before any of the descriptions - AC feels as though this is technically sound and not a defect.

While I agree the 'technical' side of it may be correct, the 'ecommerce'  & 'usability' sides of it are horrible. Related items should NEVER be shown to a visitor before descriptive information. If anything, the related items tab should default to the LAST position, not the first.

    anyone else agree?

    Re: Product detail tabs

Have you tried using the Bullets area for the initial description or removing the related items tab and using the snapin instead?

    Re: Product detail tabs

I would like to add in that we don't like it either, in fact we changed it recently but some customers preferred it the old way for some odd reason even though we explained it was worse for them.  Thus, we are now forced to making a setting for it to order the tabs in a customer defined order.  We will ourselves be defaulting descriptions to be first for all new customers and likely old ones then change it for the customers that still want related items first.

For now you have the related items snapin that can be placed on the page.  This feature, we still consider it a feature, will be coming in a newer version of AmeriCommerce.  We're working very hard right now on usability, help documentation and smaller settings just like this.

Bottom line, i totally agree its better to have descriptions first and related last.  I wish all our customers did too.  The setting will rectify this from all angles at least.

    Re: Product detail tabs

    Ed,

Personally I wouldn't make this one way or the other. I would make it either a snap in, or a merge code that you can put wherever you want. Everyone has a different look and feel to their website, having the option to place it wherever you want it is optimum. Snap ins and merge codes are really cool features that allow a lot of flexibility. These are two features of Americommerce that I really like.

I would like to see the option to name a description tab what you want it to be. For example, on some of my products these tabs:

    Descriptions

    More Information

    Details

don't tell the whole story. I would prefer to take the "more information" tab, name it "product instructions" or "how to use" giving the customer exactly what is under that tab. Being able to name the tab allows for better customization and communication based on the nature of the products each of us sell. Not all products are the same, some require different types of information in the description to satisfy the customer's curiousity, and or informational need. Getting the proper information leads to purchases. I sell fishing gear, so "instructions", "rigging instructions", are tab names that are more applicable to my particulary products, than "More Information" or "Details". Having the option to name the tab is the way to go, if it's possible.

One of the nicest features on some websites that sell electronics, is the "What's in the Box" tab, this tells the customer what comes with the product, and in that location is where I would personally put in a merge code for "Customers who bought this, bought these"  The last thing you want is to upsell stuff that is already in the box, or comes with the product. This is where merge codes really shine. If I sold electronics, this is the way I would structure my product pages. This is not related to what I personally sell, but as a customer, when I buy electronics, such as cameras, etc. I like being able to know what comes with it, so I know what accessories to buy. Websites that have these features get my business, not just price.

I think that once "CUSTOMER REVIEWS" are added (HINT!), these should also be either a snap in or merge code that can be placed where you want it to be.

    Re: Product detail tabs

That's just it, it is a snapin, it can also be moved around using custom layout.  But we do admittedly need to add a setting to sort them as well.  Heck i would like to add some new tab formats and styles too.

You can also change the tabs names like you are wanting both on the theme, and even on the individual product.

BTW, nice plug on product reviews, yes its being built as a snapin and its coming muy soono.  We are working on the proof of concept for 'snapin merge codes' even, giving you the power of both, that's really going to be snazzy!

    Re: Product detail tabs

You actually can make unique tab names for each product.. it is controlled via the product import.

ie you can make tab 1 say "Details" for some products and "Description" for others..... really useful feature..... Not as useful as the CUSTOMER REVIEWS the two of us have been championing for a hile now.

... Ed, thanks for the clarification and possible solutions (I had to not use the tab and use the snapin as Stefan too suggested, but would prefer the tab)

    Re: Product detail tabs

    Ed,

I can't wait until the Customer Reviews are up and running. This will really complement my sites, and put me ahead of the pack in my industry. I am looking forward to getting the ball rolling on this. The blogs and overall industry response to customer reviews is extremely positive.
