We have built our own Review funcitonality - please provide feedback

Alright, We too have been waiting far to long for review funcationality on our sites, so we built our own.

click here  (click on more info tab)

When a user posts a review it goes into a database we have created and an email is sent to our 'moderator'

The moderator has the ability to approve a review (which publishes it on the page), edit it (to remove vulgarities or whatever) or delete it.

We will be pushign 'average ratings' at the top of the review screen as well so a user can see how many reviews and the average rating of the item very shortly.

Our system knows the itemID of the product (using merge code on the page) and that is what dyanmically pulls the data from our review DB to render on the site.

I know there is significant interest in the forums for this type of functionality, and we are considering providing it to other AC customers, who are not in our particular industry.

I am thinking of a nominal setup fee (we have to build a store ID for you in our review DB adn help implement in your site), but with no monthly fees, since we will not be providing any type of support/enhancemens/maintenace. Instead of a monthly fee, we would want a link back to our website in the footer of every page of your site (including homepage) with text along the lines of

    Product Reviews Powered by xxxxxxx

with xxxxxx being the clickable anchor text

You would have your own admin console to manage the approval/denial/editing of your reviews, and they will be exclusive to your site.

... ultimately, I would love to be able to edit the template of my AC backend to include a link to my review administration console , but in the interim we will have the link to the console embedded in each 'review notification' email sent to the moderator

Is there anyone here potentially interested in this type of relationship?

Re: We have built our own Review funcitonality - please provide feedback

Ok, we have tested our review functionality and have decided to include the setup here. If this takes off, then we will start a new thread with the setup information.

     Steps to implementation :

     1. Please email webmaster@alltecstores.com to discuss the setup. We will need the following information from you:

            a) The email address to notify you of new reviews

            b) an administrative login

            c) an administrative password

    2. After you have been set up, for each product that you want to provide reviews for - include the following merge code in one of your product descriptions:

    ##EXTERNALCONTENT[http://content.alltecstores.com/custreviews.asp?Item_id=YOUR_ITEM_ID&store_id=Store_id]##

Notes: Your item ID is not strict to a particular field. It can be anything you want, as long as it is unique per item.

Your store ID will be provided to you by us after you have been set up.

Once a review is written, an email will be generated to the address that you provided us with with a link to view the review. You can enter your administrative login/password from there and Approve / Deny / Delete / Edit all of the reviews. The newest ones are shown first, and they are hidden by default. Once approved, it will immediately appear on your store.

Re: We have built our own Review funcitonality - please provide feedback

Also, to clarify... the way you get your "YOUR_ITEM_ID" into the string above is to do it all via excel.

    -Export all of your products

-Open up your export and go to the longdescription4 column (or whatever unused tab you have. you could also use the below method to append the review to the bottom of the longdescription1 if you dont like the tab approach)

-go into  an empty cell in a row w/ a product and type:

="##EXTERNALCONTENT[http://content.alltecstores.com/custreviews.asp?Item_id="&click on cell that contains your item id&store_id=the store ID we give you]##"

the result in this cell is the formula with teh correct paramters. You can drag this formula to the bottom of your export and it will apply the formula to all of your products... then simply reupload into AC
