Migration from Yahoo Shopping to Americommerce

    Hello all:

I am tasked with migrating our Yahoo store to the AmeriCommerce system. Is there a relatively seamless way to transfer all information from Yahoo to AC? or am I looking forward to rekeying in all information from Yahoo stores to americommerce- about 500 items total?

Tom, the Data Import Tools under the Global Settings menu will point you in the right direction.  You can upload your catalog as a CSV file.

Re: Migration from Yahoo Shopping to Americommerce

I discovered that tool. I'm in the middle of cutting and pasting columns and making sure the appropriate datapoints are correct. I'm getting stuck on entering attributes, setting them up, not understanding the process, etc.

There are 3 attribute groupings listed. I have more than 3 across my entire inventory. Some parts have size differences, others size and color, others length, others, qty, etc. Do I just use attribute group 1 for the first set of options (for example, color), then go to attribute group 2 for the next set of options (for example size)?

I don't have to keep atrribute group 1 set up for just size across the entire inventory? The attribute groups are like a tree of sorts to give multiple options for each sku?

my next question is: how do I keep track of each SKU? Americommerce assigns an internal item number that I have no control over, which I'm fine with. But how do I assign my own part number to each item in my inventory with the Americommerce attribute system?

I think you are probably looking for Variants, not Attributes.  Attributes are used for a drill-down search into your catalog, much like a TV store might have TV Type (LCD, Plasma, CRT, Projection).  If you are looking for options on a single product type like Size or Color, you would use Variants instead.  Using Variant Inventory, you can set stock, SKU, price, weight, etc, on each individual SKU even when they are variants of a single root product.

    Does this help?

Re: Migration from Yahoo Shopping to Americommerce

I'm sorry. Variants. NOT Attributes. So, are my questions still valid and relevant?

How do I set this up via the spreadsheet? A pair of handlebar grips, for example, in black, white, blue, red, orange, yellow? and each color has a short and a long size? I'll have an alpha-numeric SKU (ItemNumber) that I can punch in by hand if necessary after the huge dump.

is it easier to just import 1 base SKU and then add the variants via the web?  for example, just put black grips in the spreadheet, upload it, and then add the variants after?

I played around with the variants tabs a little more. How do I get the spreadheet to populate the fields in the Variant/Custom and Variant Inventory Tabs?

also, when I go to Mass Product editor, the individual item numbers of, say a pair of grips, do not appear. Just the root Grip.

    Tom,

I recommend setting up one product manually using the product editor then doing a variant export to see the format pre-populated.

The Variant Inventory variants currently do not show up on the Mass Product editor.  They can be modified on the Variant Inventory tab of the product editor, or en-mass with the import / export.
