    Special shipping rates

I'm trying to set up special shipping rates...much like you see at www.adagio.com.  They offer a flat rate for regular ground shipping ($3.75), $9.75 for 2nd Day Air, and free shipping on orders over $50.

How can I set up similar custom shipping methods, without limiting shippers to one specific shipper and/or shipping method to one specific method?

    Thanks!

    Brian,

Here is a link to the knowledgebase article that describes how to setup a custom shipping method: http://www.americommerce.com/kb/afmmain.aspx?faqid=113

    Re: Special shipping rates

I already have a custom shipping method established for free shipping on orders over $50.  I was asking how to set custom rates based upon shipping method, rather than purchase or total price.  A competitor offers a flat rate on regular ground shipments and a different flat rate on 2nd Day Air, and they offer multiple shipping vendors.  I can't figure out how to accomplish this unless I limit shipments to 1 vendor and 1 shipment method.

     Any suggestions?

I looked at adiago teas and they offer a flat rate for regular ground and 2nd day air. I didn't see the multiple shipping vendors. But, this may be on another page of their checkout process. I didn't go thru all the checkout pages.

Custom Shipping Method would let you put in multiple rules and multiple methods can be defined. If you could list all the options you want, it would make it clearer. I'm not certain I understand exactly what you are trying to achieve.

    Re: Special shipping rates

I apologize.  I should have clarified what I was trying to do from the beginning.  Without limiting shipping choices to one shipper, I want to establish a flat $2.95 flat rate for ground and $9.00 for 2nd day air.  I have no problem with restricting these special rates to a specific shipper (say UPS) however, we want to give the customer the option to select USPS next day should they so desire (as an example).

Is it possible to give a customer the option of selecting our special rates (say UPS regular ground or UPS 2nd day air), while continuing to offer all the other standard shipping rates and vendors?

    Thank you for your help.

     Hi Brian,

If I understand this correctly you want to offer a flat rate custom shipping method as well as 'live rates' from shipping providers.

Although I haven't set up 'live rates' on my sites - I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. If you have shipping providers active as well as a custom shipping method defined, all possible shipping methods would be displayed.

Example: If you had DHL and USPS active under Global Settings > Shipping Providers and you setup a flat fee shipping for UPS thru custom shipping methods - the customer would be offered DHL, USPS as well the UPS flat rates (as long as the rules in the custom shipping method matched whats in the cart).

Like I said I have not set it up with 'live rates' from shipping vendors - however, I am fairly certain it should work. The quickest way would be to set it up and test it out and see what shows up in the cart.

Excuse me if I've misunderstood what you are trying to do. Attribute it to it being past my bed time. :)

    Cheers,

    Re: Special shipping rates

I guess I'm not understanding this properly.  When I try to establish a custom shipping method for this there doesn't appear to be any way to set it up.  I can't figure out how to allow a customer to make their purchase and if they select USPS Parcel Post as the shipping method, they will be charged $2.95, or they can select any other USPS or FedEx shipping and it will be calculated as normal.

    Brian,

I don't know of a way you can put in a conditional rate selection between a live rate and a custom rate. All shipping options will display if the items in cart match the criteria/rules setup for shipping. A possibility may be to set up live rates for USPS and FedEx. And, to call the custom shipping method something like 'Flat Rate - USPS Parcel Post' and set that under custom shipping methods to $2.95. That way a customer would get the options from USPS, FedEx and the custom flat rate.

For the setup you would have USPS and FedEx rates live - setup under Global Shipping > Shipping Providers and the flat rate setup under Custom shipping methods.

If this is still unclear - please let us know when a customer adds a product to cart - if you have live shipping rates setup for USPS - what are the options that come up?

    Cheers,
