    Google Checkout

Anyone using Google Checkout yet? I just started using it, seems like it's working fine as of today. I haven't had any orders come through yet, but I have been testing it with the shopping cart. I used the site merger code and placed it in a custom html snap in underneath the normal Checkout button. The shipping charges and taxes all come through just fine, the only thing that I did notice was that sometimes you must enter the zip code twice.

Does anyone know if  Google Checkout allows the customer to use a different Ship To address? This is the part I have not been able to test yet. My concern is the sales tax and whether that will translate correctly to the Ship To Address.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Google Checkout

Well finally got some orders via Google Checkout. So far the only problem was an error regarding the call back API URL which apparently times out. I have put out a Support Request for this. I have no idea what that error is. As soon as I find out from one of the Americommerce techs, I will post here.

    Re: Google Checkout

    Murdock,

So far the only issue I have had are as follows:

     1.  At times Google can't find the call back API URL

    2.  The Google Checkout orders are not coming through my admin panel

The good news is that the shipping comes through fine, the taxes come through fine, no problems there. As far as the orders go, Google does send me an email indicating that an order was placed, so all I need to do is go to the Google Checkout page click on my orders, and take them from there.

I sent a support ticket and Chris is working on this. Not sure what the deal is with the call back URL, google says it can't find it, I think it's just timing out. Anyway, these guys and gals at Americommerce are the bomb, I am sure they will have this figured out soon.

The cool thing is that I was able to put the Google Checkout in a custom html snap in on my sites right column, in that column I have a shopping cart that is visible to the customer as they are making their purchases, if they decide to go with google checkout the button is right there and all they have to do is click on it. Here is my URL www.TackleToyStore.com you can see it there. I think it's pretty cool, and it eliminates the need of having to put a merge code on each and every single product that I have!

    Re: Google Checkout

I went to your site, and clicked on teh google checkout button right from the homepage. It aslked me to put in my zipcode. Both codes in NJ and CA said "We do not ship to that zipcode)

When I get to a product page and hit the google checkout button the same thing occurs.

I cant imagine this being correct, is it? Can you give me a zipcode that works so I can see? Thanks!

    Re: Google Checkout

ok, i got it to work with my same zipcode (07452) after I had added an item to the cart. It still asked for zipcode, but took me into google afterwards.

If I can make a suggestion, I would simply put the button once on your cart page as opposed to the right hand of every page. Googles error messages are def not user friendly, and it only seems to work with items already in the cart.

I can understand wanting to advertise google checkout on every page; I would jsut handle that as an image, or link to a page about accepting goolge checkout, as opposed to the actual checkout.

    .. just my two cents

    Re: Google Checkout

As far as the right column goes, I put it there because I have a shopping cart that is visible at all time while the customer is shopping. If they are Google Checkout customers, all they need to do is click on Google Checkout and make the purchase. Google has a rule that the customer must be able to buy the product without registering. I am not sure if having the Google Checkout on the actual Checkout page will create the issue of having to register prior to making a purchase. Also, I am not sure if you can add the merge code to the actual checkout page. Since this is still a beta version with kinks, I didn't want to fool around with the actual Checkout page.

Yes you have to add products to the cart. You must have items in the cart for this to work. Americommerce had to put the zip code because if not, the taxes and shipping costs would not transfer over towards the final sale total.

Prior to coming to Americommerce I was working with another company. They could not get Google Check Out or much of anything else to add the shipping and the tax if applicable. The reason was because the Google Checkout button had to work separately from the shopping cart, so they too added it to the View Cart page. Again, this issue comes up because of Google's requirement that the customer not register to make a purchase. Since the zip was not known at the time Google added up the items, neither the shipping nor the taxes were communicated. Americommerce has to have that zip code in there prior to the checkout process or else it won't work correctly. I think they did a great job with this.

The one thing I have found with Google is that there is not a ship to address option. I haven't been able to fully test my cart for that because Google will not allow you to buy from yourself. I just need to setup a 2nd account with a different address, name, to be able to completely test that feature, or have a friend make a purchase and then credit it.

     Best Regards,

    Re: Google Checkout

I am considering switching to americommerce from what I am currently using.  I would like to know how well americommerce is integrated with google checkout.  Does it send tracking numbers back to google checkout?  Is it possible to do ROI/conversion tracking with google checkout orders?  Would I be able to customize americomerce so that google checkout is the only checkout option?
